What: Lunch2u.my
When: July 2012
Food: healthy
Rating: 10/10
For those watching their waistlines, Malaysia is a
nightmare. Most of the best, cheapest, and most readily available food is
horrendously unhealthy, and the combination of oil, grease, and fat in many
dishes such as char kway teow and
fried rice take their toll, not only on figures, but on hearts too.
My colleagues at work tend to lunch en masse at little
Chinese hawker stalls or order in pizza or McDonalds, so I was taken aback when
they emailed me to say they were ordering healthy lunches online, did I want to
join?
There is, it seems, at last, a saviour who will guide our
hearts away from the path of the heart attack, and it comes in the form of Alex
and her new business Lunch2u. I googled it immediately (as is the only way to
find out anything these days), and was greeted by a chirpy, colourful and, most
importantly, easy to navigate and understand site that explained about this new
company.
Basically, Alex and her gang, including an in-house
nutritionist, have developed a number of healthy lunches which they will
prepare and deliver in time for lunch. Orders have to be placed the previous
day, and then deliveries occur between 11.45am and 2pm.

Neatly wrapped and labelled
The menu is select at the moment, but each item has a
picture, an explanation of how it was made, as well as the calorie counter to
let people know how much their bodies are taking on. Choices are priced
reasonably – around RM10 for each – although I have spotted that Groupon
already have discount vouchers circulating for those in need!
So, orders were made, and the delivery arrived and there was
much excitement as everyone gathered in the conference room to admire the
booty. Each thing comes neatly wrapped and labelled, so there is no confusion
about what is what. The only confusion is everyone trying to remember what they
ordered!

A sneak peek at the egg mayo sandwich
The Egg-Centric (RM10.90) is an egg mayo sandwich made with
yoghurt instead of mayo, with added spring onions and paprika for extra flavour,
and slapped between two pieces of bran bread.
Thai Journey (RM12.90) is a colourful salad of red rice,
fresh, meaty slices of chicken, various vegetables (cherry tomatoes, peppers),
a few chunks of sweet mango and a drizzling of spicy sour Thai dressing.

Thai Journey..oooo look at that chicken!
Moroccan Dreams (RM12.90) is a good veggie choice: cous cous
is mixed with chickpeas and various vegetables before being drizzled with olive
oil and lemon juice.

Moroccan Dreams
Another vegetarian choice is the Pasta Pasta (RM12.90),
which pairs tricolour pasta with vegetables and drizzles the combination with a
mustard lemon vinaigrette.

Love Me Tandoor - a healthy Indian treat
Last by not least is the Love Me Tandoor (RM11.90); a
wholemeal capati smothered with raita and filled with marinated chicken breast
(that is baked for maximum healthiness).
More options on the website include the Skinny Spicy Tuna
sandwich (RM10.90) and I am sure there will be many more to come as Alex and
her team expand and develop. Also, they currently only deliver to Mont Kiara,
Damansara Heights, and Bangsar neighbourhoods, but orders can also be picked up
from their kitchen in Kota Damansara.
It is, without doubt, a wonderful idea! The food is fresh,
healthy, and absolutely lovely to eat, and it is great to know that, behind the
business, there is a group of people who really believe in the food they are
making and the word they hope to spread. “We are on a mission to help
Malaysians eat better, one lunch at a time” they say on their website; I am all
for it!
The website also has nutritional information on and tips for
making healthy meals at home, and be prepared to be surprised; food that is
healthy can be tasty too you know! Visit http://lunch2u.my
and check it out for yourself.
